Strategy for protection against negative effects of floods and erosion phenomena by semi-natural measures in the Czech Republic
Floods and water erosion have always been there. What measures in the river basin help people the most?
We have been dealing with water management since our foundation in 1919. The issue of floods and water scarcity has been a central theme of many major projects, especially in the last twenty years in response to a series of major floods and drought years. Within research projects, we primarily deal with issues of prevention and possible mitigation of the negative impacts of both extreme phenomena on society and the environment. In the field of hydrology, we focus on issues of quantification and protection of water resources, the development and application of methods for measuring and monitoring the parameters of water movement in watercourses and reservoirs, as well as the issue of hydroecology. We carry out expert and assessment activities and participate in a number of national and international projects.
