Development of methods and devices for refining the year-round evaporation balance

The aim of the project is the development of an affordable reference bank evaporimeter and its deployment at several sites in the Czech Republic. The project is being implemented in 2019-2021; it is funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.

Project background

Both observed and expected impacts of climate change clearly show an increase in temperature, and not just in our country. From the hydrological balance point of view, this phenomenon is significant mainly due to the increase in evaporation, which negatively affects the availability of water resources.

Project aims

The project is focused on the development of an affordable reference bank evaporimeter, which will enable automatic measurement of evaporation from an open water surface. Part of the project is testing the optimal setting of parameters of evaporimeters and installed equipment. The results of the evaporation balance measurement will be used for the purposes of management and planning of water resources in the Czech Republic.

Project methodology

Various materials, equipment, and instruments are tested and combined to achieve the required evaporation measurement accuracy at low acquisition costs.
